Just before the year came to an end, the VIX Futures contract saw a record-trading day on Monday with a single-volume record.?
In a CBOE Futures Exchange LLC (CFE?) press release, it announced CBOE Volatility Index? (VIX? index) futures had set a new single-day volume record of 212,800 contracts (estimated). The record surpassed the previous one of 190,081 contracts traded on September 13, 2012.
For CFE, it was the first time in its history trading volume had exceeded 200,000 contracts in a single day. VIX futures likely underwent another record year in 2012 as trading volume had increased 86 percent through November.
In 2012, the top four trading months for VIX futures came in the last four months of the year.?
