Another day, another record.

On Monday, the CBOE Futures Exchange, LLC (CFE?) announced that open interest in futures on the CBOE Volatility Index reached a new all-time high for a second straight day.?

In the morning, open interest was 449,816 contracts, surpassing Friday’s record of 438,038 futures contracts.?

This follows the two single-volume records in VIX Index futures also set earlier in the month. On Wednesday, January 2, 2013 and on Monday, December 31, 2012, trading in VIX futures set consecutive single-day volume records when 221,323 contracts and 212,800 contracts traded, respectively.

For 2012, VIX futures trading volume set a new annual record when 23,785,806 contracts traded, a 98 percent increase from 2011’s 12,027,955 contracts–the previous record year.

Will we see a third day?

On Monday, the VIX closed at 13.52, up 1.20%.
