On Monday, CME Group (CME) announced record volume in the?Equity Index options?complex on January 24, 2014 when 1,061,279 contracts traded. This surpassed the previous record of 931,164 set on?June 20, 2013, a 13 percent increase.

The record also represents a first time in CME Group’s trading history that the entire Equity Index options complex surpassed one million contracts in a single trading day. This comes as the?E-mini S&P 500 options, including the weeklies and monthlies, traded 966,881 contracts on?January 24, 2014. This surpassed the previous record of 809,935 contracts on June 20, 2013, a 19 percent increase.

For the month to-date, with five trading days remaining, Equity Index options are up 69 percent from last year and the E-mini S&P 500 contracts are up 76 percent.
