Chicago Board Options Exchange, Incorporated (CBOE?) reported on Friday that trading volume in its S&P 500? Index (SPX) Weeklys options reached an estimated 747,616 contracts, representing an all-time daily volume record. This record surpassed the previous daily record of 426,955 SPX WeeklysSM (SPXW) contracts traded on Thursday by 75 percent.
Prior to last week’s activity, the single-day volume record had been 425,270 contracts set on May 31, 2013.?
Over the last several years,?SPX Weeklys options have driven tremendous growth in CBOE?s SPX options complex. Last year, average daily volume (ADV) for SPX Weeklys options hit an all-time high of 197,126 contracts, a 98-percent rise from 2012. Total annual volume in CBOE?s SPX options reached a new all-time high in 2013 as 207.5 million contracts traded, an increase of 19 percent from the previous year. ? ??
