US listed-options volumes sank sharply in November, falling 40% compared to October, resulting in lowest volume month since 2010, says TABB Group in publishing its exclusive Options LiquidityMatrix?, which includes options trading volumes and statistics on execution metrics for each US listed-options exchange as well as the industry as a whole.
US listed options volumes plunged in November, reports Andy Nybo, TABB?s head of derivatives research, as relatively quiet trading in underlying equities and a collapse in volatility led to sharp drop in volume.
Trading totaled 294.8 million contracts for the month, 17% lower than the 2014 monthly average of 355.5 million contracts and a 40% decrease from the October 2014 volume of 491.4 million contracts.
Volatility dropped sharply in November, averaging 13.41 for the month as compared to the 18.02 average in October.
Monthly volume has not been below 300 million contracts since August 2010.
