On Wednesday, the Options Industry Council (OIC) reported that 371,147,433 total options contracts traded in April. This is a 16.11 percent rise as compared to last year when 319,640,606 contracts traded.

This represents the best April volume on record.

April’s average daily volume came in at 16,870,338 contracts, a 5.56 percent increase as compared to last April’s 15,982,030 contracts. Year-to-date volume is 1,364,727,666 contracts, just slightly lower than last year?s 1,380,749,815 contracts by 1.16 percent.

Equity options volume (options on individual stocks and ETFs) was 337,754,380 contracts, a 14.32 percent increase as compared to last year’s 295,433,916 contracts. ?April average daily equity options volume was 15,352,472 contracts, a 3.93 percent increase as compared to the previous year’s 14,771,696 contracts.

Year-to-date equity options volume is 1,236,639,821 contracts. This is 3.38 percent lower than the 1,279,941,692 contracts traded at the same point in 2012.?
