The?CBOE Futures Exchange, LLC (CFE?) announced CBOE Volatility Index? (VIX? index) futures hit an all-time single-day volume record of an estimated 449,955 contracts on Monday. This surpassed the previous record of 302,278 contracts set on February 25, 2013.?
CBOE Gold ETF Volatility Index (GV) futures contracts also incurred record-breaking volume. A new single-day record was set with an estimated 1,488 contracts. The previous record of 765 contracts had been set on March 28, 2013.
In March, a record 3,220,977 VIX futures contracts traded, surpassing the 3,062,344 contracts traded in February by five percent. This had represented the previous record.
From February and March’s activity, they were first two months in CFE history to report ?more than three million VIX futures contracts traded, according to a CFE press release. ?As compared to the 1,963,893 contracts traded in the previous year, March?s volume increased by 64 percent.?
