OIC Announces September Volume Numbers
TheOptions Industry Council announced today that total options trading volume forSeptember was 391,246,939 contracts, a 29.52 percent increase from September2010ís 302,075,193 contracts.
Inaddition, totalcleared contract volume, according to The Options Clearing Corporation, reached 394,148,808 contracts inSeptember, representing a 30 percent increase over the September 2010 volume of303,851,940 contracts.
With strong Septembertrading volume, OCC said it is on pace to clear a record number of contracts thisyear.
Averagedaily trading volume in September also increased 29.52 percent to 18,630,807contracts versus 14,384,533 contracts in September 2010.
Year-to-datevolume was 22.46 percent higher with 3,507,063,494 contracts at the end ofSeptember as compared to September 2010ís 2,863,809,736 contracts.
To date,average daily trading volume was 18,555,891 contracts, a 21.81 percent risefrom the 15,233,030 contracts traded in the same period last year.
Equity Options Volume
Septemberequity options volume (options on individual stocks and ETFs) was 359,818,479contracts, representing a 28.65 percent increase as compared to the same periodlast year.
Dailyequity options volume averaged 17,134,213 contracts per day in September, whichis 28.65 percent higher than last yearís 13,318,876 contracts.
Year-to-dateequity options volume was 3,248,324,766 contracts, a 22.95 percent increasefrom the same point last year when 2,642,004,136 contracts traded.
