Today the OIC released the results of a new benchmark study on financial advisors? use of options. This study was conducted by Bellomy Research and commissioned by the OIC.
More than 600 advisers across various distribution channels were surveyed on how, when and why they used options. 61 percent said they were using options, up from 48 percent in 2011, an increase of 13%.
Two biggest reasons for using options in the past year by financial advisers were income generation and risk management. Most advisers stated that they managed options strategies on their own. Covered call was the strategy that advisers reported to use the most in their clients? portfolios.
In addition, more advisers are likely to to discuss options strategies with their clients compared to the previous study. Also, they noted that clients were more likely to bring up options strategies on their own.
