CHICAGO (November 1, 2007) - - The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced today that 291,994,503 total options contracts changed hands in October, continuing a high-growth trend representing a 52.6 percent increase over October 2006 volume. Average daily volume for the month came in at 12,695,414 contracts.
The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) reported year-to-date volume at the end of October stood at 2,314,789,537 contracts, an increase of 38.4 percent over the same period last year. Year-to-date daily volume is averaging 11,022,807 contracts, up 38.4 percent over the same period in 2006.
Equity options saw 268,276,414 contracts change hands, 53.5 percent higher than October 2006. Year-to-date equity options volume is 2,090,669,461 contracts, up 37.5 percent over the same point last year, and the first time equity options volume surpassed 2 billion contracts. Daily equity options volume averaged 11,664,192 contracts per day in October, an increase of 46.8 percent over the same month last year.
